The Mission of the Sacred Heart Retreat House is “to promote a deeper spiritual life among God’s people.”

Who are “God’s people”? These are the very persons God has placed in front of me, behind me or next to me. It might be a co-worker, retreatant, Décor-Carmeli girls, the postman, volunteers, visitors, Retreat Captain, visiting priest or Retreat Masters, students from St. Therese School on a field trip, strangers lost on the highway seeking directions, phone callers inquiring about retreats or desperately begging prayers of intercession for their personal burdens and crosses, my own Religious Sisters with whom I share common values, mission, goals, charism. These are the people God has placed in my path for me to minister in promoting a deeper spiritual life: to give a cheerful smile to the youthful and enthusiastic Décor Carmeli girls who come to volunteer; to give a word of encouragement to our Retreat Captains, retreatants, volunteers, co-workers, postman, and students; work shoulder-to-shoulder in the back kitchen washing dishes with my Sisters; working with kindness and gentleness side-by-side in the front office with my co-workers, to be a healing balm to the trembling and tearful voice at the other end of the phone line desperately begging for prayers in a seemingly hopeless situation.

“May your life in that little corner of the earth be as a bonfire of love, consuming itself in the love of God and zeal for souls. Yes, win many souls for Him by your prayers, good example, and teaching.” – (Mother Luisita)

These words of Mother Luisita sum up how I experience my Mission at Sacred Heart Retreat House – I strive to be a bonfire of LOVE. Oftentimes I fail, but with God’s grace, I get up and try again.
Mother Luisita, pray for us!
