“Put your finger here and see my hands and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.”
These words are an invitation from our Lord Jesus to each of us during these holiest days of the liturgical year. The beckoning to put our finger into His hand and our hand into His side is quite astounding. The glorified wound in Jesus’ side is so large that our whole hand can reach into His side. Why? So that we might reach out and touch… no more than touch… clasp the very Heart of God. He beckons us to this level of intimacy so that we might experience the depths of His personal love for each of us. His love is not some generic love for all humankind, but deeply personal and individualized. If we really encounter His love, our lives will be set on fire and transformed through the contact with His Sacred Heart. Our doubts and our fears… so heavy at times… will begin to fade as we fix our eyes more steadfastly on Him and trust that His love fulfills the deepest need of our hearts. We can trust Him to take care of and provide for us. Let us not be afraid to touch His Heart due to a sense of unworthiness. No one is worthy and it is our very unworthiness that draws Him to offer His Heart to us, that drew Him to offer His whole life for us. The greatest consolation we can offer Him is to trust in the love and mercy of His Sacred Heart for us. Jesus, I place my trust in You!
