Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all food is properly cooked, held, stored, and served for optimal quality safety and palatability according to regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Maintain cooking area and equipment in a clean organized and sanitary manner according to Department of Health Standards at all times. Wash all dishes, pots and pans used in daily food preparation and assist with these on retreat or special event food preparation.
  • Pull food according to menu specifications and utilize leftovers within three days to avoid spoilage.
  • Adjust recipes for volume and substitute ingredients as necessary.
    When assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor, the cook will assist in the food inventory each week and report the information to the Kitchen Supervisor or their delegate by the requested time.
  • Prepares all food according to menu specifications and at gourmet quality.
  • Reports to Kitchen Supervisor maintenance requisitions for all items in need of repair before the end of the shift.
  • Ensure food is completely ready to serve at established meal times.
  • When requested, receive food delivery, verify invoices against original order and put food away.
  • Follow set schedule and work tasks according to weekly duty list provided by the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Serve food on tray line or dining room as assigned.
  • Answer phone inquiries as needed.
  • Perform all other duties in keeping with training as requested by Supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Adhere to a professional dress code that reflects the mission of Sacred Heart Retreat House with excellent grooming and appearance.
  • Follow all guidelines in the handbook and policies, as well as, all safety procedures.
  • Attend all in-services, meetings and other training required by this position.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

Laundry

Washes, dries, irons (as needed), and folds bed linens, towels, cleaning rags, blankets, bedspreads, and guests clothing. Commercial and residential type equipment is used.

Guests’ Room Cleaning

  • Cleans guests rooms following set procedures which includes removal of trash, dusting, wiping surfaces, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, making beds, and bathroom cleaning and sanitation.
  • Uses designated materials and cleaning chemicals to perform cleaning tasks.
  • Checks rooms when cleaning for anything requiring repair. Notifies supervisor according to set procedure using maintenance forms.

  • Prepares rooms for guests’ arrival including placing complementary and promotional items in designated spots of room.

Inventory

  • Conducts weekly and yearly inventory of linen and supplies as requested by supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor in advance when supplies or linen are running low in order to assure timely re-ordering.

Cleaning Public Areas

  • Cleans all public areas including meeting rooms and halls, dining rooms as assigned, offices as assigned, restrooms, and interior corridors.

Outdoor Cleaning

  • Assists with cleaning projects outdoors including but not limited to wiping handrails, tables, and chairs.
  • Arranges furniture in meeting rooms and halls according to designated setups for guests.
  • Assists in moving items as needed for the various functions of the Retreat House.

Is cross-trained to be able to assist in kitchen tasks including manual and machine dishwashing and food preparation including preparing meals for retreats/programs as scheduled. The Kitchen/Housekeeping Supervisor will assign kitchen duties as needed.

Kitchen Duties

  • Washes pots and pans and other dishes in the dish room.
  • Sweeps and mops all kitchen floors, wipes down sinks and countertops at end of day./li>
  • Overall Deep Cleaning of a commercial kitchen.
  • Serves food on serving line or dining room as assigned.

General
May perform other housekeeping and kitchen duties, as assigned, to meet the day to day needs of Sacred Heart Retreat House.
